AirZone Flight Team

Airzone Flight TeamBased in the San Francisco Bay Area (California) AirZone Flight Team was formed in 2003 by Darrin Skinner, Aaron Champie, Wayne Fu, and Uly Villanueva competing as a 4 man team in the USA at BASKL and AKA events and also participating in the 2004 WSKC in Berck-sur-mer, France and the 2005 WSKC in Lincoln City, Oregon.

In 2005 Francisco Navarro and John Gillespie joined the team and choreographed a 6 man routine to compete in the 2006 WSKC in Berck-sur-Mer, France.

Shortly after the team lost original members Uly and Wayne, and the team continued preforming and competing as a 4 member squad, and Darrin, Aaron, John and Francisco participated in the 2008 WSKC in Berck-sur-mer.

In 2009, Team AirZone attended The American Kitefliers Association (AKA) Grand Nationals in Rochester, MN and placed First in Team Ballet and Second in Team Precision in the three-person configuration of Darrin, Aaron and John. They flew the final competitive performance of The Phantom routine.

In late 2009, a new 3-person choreography was developed for Lawrence of Arabia. Darrin, Aaron and John traveled to Berck-sur-Mer for the World Sport Kite Championships (WSKC) in April, 2010 as the sole representative of the AKA. They placed 4th in a field of 8, just missing the podium.

AirzoneAfter the 2010, WSKC, Francisco rejoined the team.

In 2011, AirZone was the sole Masters team competing at the American Kitefliers Association Annual Convention in Wildwood, NJ in October, 2011. Unfortunately, Francisco was not able to join the team. They also competed alone at the AKA convention at Enid, Oklahoma in 2012.

They competed in the WSKC 2012 competition in Berck-sur-Mer again and took 4th place with Lawrence of Arabia with the three-person team of Darrin, Aaron and John.

In mid-2013, they added a new team member: Drew Bembenek giving the team a number of possible combinations for future routines.

The 3 man squad participated in the WSKC 2014 in April in Berck, France and a new routine was debuted there with Darrin, Aaron and John.

They are currently working on a new routine in preparation for the 2016 WSKC.
